Picture response

One of the comments in the Taking Requests post was "smoky eyes!" by Anonymous.

Before I begin, one note about these anonymous comments...I know who requested what! So predictable, Preethi, Sherin, Janice, Jenny, and Kho! But, I will respect your anonymity and not expose you to the world.

Here is a pictorial (picture tutorial!) of smoky eyes...it's not the best--the eyeshadows were incredibly difficult to blend tonight, and I was distracted by the show Sherin forced me to watch! I cannot believe the intensity of the level of trashiness of that show. I tried to make this simple using inexpensive things and a limited number of things.

Enough chitty chat. Let's begin! One note of caution, this look won't work for Asian eyes. Sorry! That's another tutorial for another day.

You will need:
1. one eyeshadow brush (I used Elf's eyeshadow brush)

2. Smudgeproof base (Urban Decay Primer Potion, Two Faced Shadow Insurance, Mac Paint Pots, Nars smudgeproof base)

3. Eyeshadows (I used Nyx Jazz Night Palette)
The purple/pink hearts signify the minimum needed to pull off a smoky look. The yellow hearts are optional. In the steps below, I will list which ones are the optional steps.

4. Black eyeliner (pencil or gel but not liquid)

5. Mascara

Let's begin the pictorial!

Step 1: After priming eyes with a smudgeproof base apply light/medium shade all over lid. In this case, it was the silver color, denoted by the purple heart.

Step 2: Apply a medium/dark shade in the crease. The color I used was the blue shade with the purple heart. Then, blend. The right eye is not blended to show you where you should place the shadow.

Step 3: Darken the crease on the outer half of the eye with a darker shade such as dark blue, dark grey, dark brown, dark purple, or black. For the anatomically inclined folks, from the midpoint of the eye laterally towards the temples. In this case, I used the soft black marked with the purple heart.

Step 4: Line your lashes with eyeliner. Don't bother making a perfect straight line, you're going to smudge it out anyways. Just slap it along the lashline. Then, take your brush, dip it in the black (pink heart) and dark violet (Optional, yellow heart) and smudge the liner into a smooth smudgy smoky line.
The left eye has just the messy liner, and the right eye has the liner+smudge

Step 5: Once both eyes are smudged, connect the line on the lashline with the outer edge of the crease so that it forms a V, denoted by the dotted V on the left eye. If you'd like, deepen the look by blending in more black eyeshadow in the V.

Steps 6 and 7: Apply black eyeliner to the bottom lashline similar to the method you used for the upper lashline. Then smudge with the black and dark violet (optional) shadows.

Step 8 (optional): connect black eyeliner from bottom to lower lashline and add a bit of shimmer/sparkle to the inner corner of the eye using a light shimmery shade. I dabbed the light silver (yellow heart) gently into the inner corner of both eyes.

Step 9: Coat lashes with Mascara, and you're done!

Many thanks to Sherin for being my model/guinea pig! Although I kind of sold my soul to our trade (I cannot believe that show...) Hope this wasn't too complicated and sorry guys for estranging you once again. I am going to try my hand at vlogging again. If I can only find that darn charger...
