My wonderful friends in the blogger realm, I apologize to you for being remiss in my blogging efforts. Lately, blogging has fallen in priority when it comes to things I have to do. The simple fact is that I haven't made it a priority, and since I decided not to talk about patients (and boy do I have some stories from the Psych field), it is difficult to write engagingly in this blog. But, I do have some general comments and thoughts about my Psych rotation that I feel is ok to share.
My patients have taught me so much about loving the broken and the socially outcast. When I can even attempt to imagine what it would be like to have no control over my brain/mind/thoughts, it seems worse to me than to have a missing arm. So many patients beg me to help them sleep because it had been ages since a decent night's rest, having been tormented by voices telling them to kill themselves or hurt others. And then to be ostracized by society, what a double blow to a human being's sense of dignity. God still created these people in His image, regardless of how pyschotic they are. We need to love them! And we should be reminded of God's grace, that we are healthy and well. Don't you see, these patients are the least of these that Jesus spoke of. Of course there are those who are sociopaths who want to harm and feel no remorse, and that is a different story...or is it?
