For starters, this year Burton and I have our own home with our own Christmas tree! We were able to decorate it with mismatching ornaments picked up from sales around the town. And a Domo string of lights to give it our personal touch.
Also, this year we started working doing the work that we love. We knew that entering this profession would not be easy. It meant long work days and seeing some truly heart-wrenching things. Some things I wish I could forget and other instances I will cherish forever. But God has been so faithful in showing us how He is present and working in the lives of our patients. And He has been showing us how we are a part of their lives--something of heaven collides with earth and eternity is changed. Or at least I'm optimistic to believe.
So we will not be able to spend Christmas with our families in CA and NJ opening presents and eating yummy home-cooked meals. But we are so blessed to be a part of God's work and to serve others on Christmas. For God came to earth in the most absolute humblest form to be born amongst animals and their poop and their stench, to serve.
Love you all. Have a wonderful blessed Christmas!
