First prom post-prom story: Last year, I went shopping with my friend Mel to look for wedding shoes. I walked into Charles David at KOP, and asked one of the salesmen that I was looking for the shiniest gold shoes they had. Then he asks me, "Are these shoes for prom?" PROM?! I went to prom when I was 17. Do I look like I'm 17? How bout ALL of college and post-college? Do you NOT see the aging in my eyes and the burden of the world I carry on my shoulders?
"No, I'm getting married," I responded.
Then he looked so embarrassed that I had to leave because he was making me feel uncomfortable. I hope he never has to be that clown at the amusement parks that try to guess your age.
Second prom post-prom story: Last night, I did makeup for some teenage girls! I didn't tell you, blog, but my new hobby is makeup. And for awhile I wondered if it's because I'm vain. But I'm not! I never wear makeup outside...seriously...people are so confused as to why I like makeup when I never wear it. It's not the vanity, but it's the artistry of it: the textures, the colors, the contouring, the canvas of a fresh face, the emotional reaction when their eyes look bigger or their acne looks like it's gone for just a moment...And I finally put it to good use! (back to the story) My mentor's daughter went to prom last night and I offered to do her makeup and she accepted. So exciting because she's Caucasian and she has visible eye sockets! I did a purple smokey eye on her and she loved it! YES! By the way, they're giants and they look like they're older than me. Dang my Asian genes...they'd better come in handy when I'm in my 40's.
Tomorrow I'll write about another Bloomingdales incident. Seriously, when my gift card to that place runs out I'm not going anymore because the workers there have some major issues.
